Frequently asked

What is Awake AI for?

Keeping a Mac awake while an AI coding agent works — then stepping back when the run exits or goes idle. It watches selected apps, shell processes, test runs, builds, scripts, and previews. It is a menu-bar utility, not a caffeine clone with a chat box stapled on.

What are Waitmaxxing Games?

Eleven tiny games built into the app for the pockets of time while an agent edits, tests, builds, or retries. Open them from the controller icon in the menu-bar window. They are there so waiting can be a feature instead of a stare-at-the-logs contest.

How do I keep the Mac awake?

Click the Awake AI icon in the menu bar. Use a quick timer (15m, 30m, 1h, 2h, 4h, 8h), watch an app or process, or turn on Smart Awake. You can also use the global shortcut Cmd + Shift + A.

How do AI commands work?

Type plain English in the AI Command field — for example, “Stay awake while my agent codes” or “Keep awake until tests finish.” AI commands use a subscription or your own supported provider key. Core sleep prevention does not require an account.

Do I need an API key?

Not for sleep prevention. For AI commands, you can subscribe or enter your own API key from a supported provider in Settings → AI Providers → Manage API Keys.

Where is my API key stored?

On your Mac. It is not sent to Awake’s servers. When you use a command, the text goes to the provider you chose.

How does watching apps and processes work?

The Apps tab lets you choose what keeps the Mac awake — agent runs, editors, terminals, test runners, build scripts, and more. You can also detect terminal processes such as builds, tests, scripts, and previews. When the work stops, normal sleep can resume.

What is the battery threshold?

When enabled, Awake stops preventing sleep if battery drops below the level you set. Useful for long unattended sessions that should not drain the machine.

How do I restore or cancel a subscription?

Restore: Settings → AI Commands → Restore Purchases, signed in with the same Apple ID. Cancel: System Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions. Access continues until the end of the billing period.

The Mac is still sleeping. What should I check?

Confirm the menu-bar icon is active. Check that battery threshold is not firing. Look at System Settings → Lock Screen in case another policy is forcing sleep. If you expected an agent or build to hold the Mac awake, confirm that item is enabled on the Apps tab.

How do I uninstall?

Quit from the menu bar, then drag Awake AI from Applications to the Trash.
